Lyreco, the internationally renowned retail company specialising in office and workstation solutions realised their high-performance, high bay warehouse for over 11,000 different items in collaboration with us.
The declared objective of the Lyreco Group, which is active worldwide, is that ordered products are with the end consumer or recipients within industry and retail within 24 hours where possible. In order to be able to achieve that in Switzerland, Lyreco Switzerland AG decided to construct a new high-performance warehouse in Dintikon. The service-oriented company can therefore keep its own services at a correspondingly high level in line with delivery promises and satisfy individual requests as far as is possible.
Lyreco offers everything for the office from a single source, including items such as classic office supplies, tailored advertising media, personal protective equipment, drinks, snacks, Nespresso Business Solutions, or hygiene products. The range covers more than 9,500 products as well as an additional 5,000 specific client products. A wide range of services complements the wide range of products. Dispatching such a wide range of products places particular demands on storage as well as sales and marketing. The larger a product range is, the more stringent the requirements are for efficient storage, order picking, and dispatch. A complex task for a high-performance logistics centre.
In light of this background, the office equipment supplier decided on a fully automated high bay warehouse with our warehouse management system (WMS). This solution enables the large customer group within Switzerland to be supplied quickly with the most varied products.
The rack system for Lyreco Switzerland AG was planned and implemented with a silo construction and more than 13,000 pallet positions, as well as three aisles. In addition, there is a pallet conveyor system on two levels with two rack-servicing cranes as well as the WMS and plant control system.
The plant control system as well as the logistics software, which act as the interface to the WMS, rack-servicing cranes, and conveyor technology, were realised by Jungheinrich Systemlösungen GmbH, which specialises in software for warehouse, material flow, and control technology. The high bay warehouse is connected with the “Lyreco Service Cube” automatic container warehouse, in which 116 shuttles gather the orders. 50,000 standardised containers, all of which store a product, are found here in a compact space.
The new intralogistics solution means Lyreco can better adhere to one of its core principles: What the customer orders today, will be delivered tomorrow. In addition, the warehouse can be easily expanded if necessary. The high bay warehouse was designed so that a third aisle could be commissioned during ongoing operation and without structural amendments if subsequent expansion were to take place.
