The innovative thermosetting and thermoplastics from Dutch manufacturer VDL Wientjes Emmen B.V. are used in the most varied industries. Due to increasing demand, the requirements of production and logistics also increased along with the need for storage space.
Expansion of warehouse capacities and associated optimisation of logistics processes were important corporate objectives. VDL Wientjes Emmen decided on a holistic logistics solution. In this case we supplied all warehouse technology and logistics software whilst also acting as general contractor in implementing the project. Our Warehouse Management System was introduced by commissioning the ten-metre high, six-aisle wide high bay warehouse. Of particular concern were complete batch traceability and voucherless order picking. A special feature of this project is the number of different bay heights in the high bay warehouse. The high-bay warehouse comprises 15 different racking types with 17 different racking bay heights. In order to simplify the work at Goods inward, height classifications were created.
Our WMS maintains stock levels, optimises the entire flow of goods, manages storage locations, takes over control of fork lift trucks, and supplies the production lines by automatically triggering replenishments. In addition to the high-bay warehouse, the WMS also manages a few interior and exterior block storage warehouses. These store raw materials, semi-finished and finished products. The high bays are served by our reach trucks. During commissioning, the WMS was initially supplied with item master data from the Enterprise Resource Planning System. This was followed by the implementation of the Goods inward and Goods outward interfaces.
Keimpe Jan Miedema, warehouse manager of VDL Wientjes Emmen, is impressed with the optimisation process: “Commissioning of the Jungheinrich Warehouse Management System, which took place at the scheduled date, as well as the training of VDL Wientjes Emmen B.V. Staff was done by the team at Jungheinrich very professionally and with a great deal of patience.” Our staff was able to react immediately to change requests upon commissioning and VDL Wientjes Emmen can bank on our support even after implementation has taken place. Keimpe Jan Miedema continued enthusiastically: “And since handover of the project, Jungheinrich has provided us with fast, precise and friendly support when we have any questions or problems. The Jungheinrich WMS fulfils all the requirements which VDL Wientjes Emmen B.V. can make of a modern WMS."
